Exall’s win BMGA British Doubles Tournament in Warwick

"The Righteous Brothers"
Andy and Trevor Exall
On Saturday 17th May 2008 the British Minigolf Association (BMGA) held its Annual BMGA British Doubles Minigolf Tournament at the Adventure Golf course at St Nicholas Park, Warwick. Fourteen teams competed in the event, which was won by the Tunbridge Wells Team of brothers Andy and Trevor Exall.
The format of the tournament was 12-hole Matchplay, with one member of the team taking the first shot and then alternating with their playing partner on any further shots if necessary. This format is quite different to the normal singles stroke play format used on the BMGA Tour, but made for some exciting matches.
The fourteen teams were split into two groups for the Round Robin stage of the tournament and the Exall’s won through to the semi final stage with a record of four wins and two losses in Group A. In their semi final they dispatched Sean and Marion Homer with a score of 3&2 and then faced Jon Angel and Keith Kellard in the final. This match ended 5&4 and saw the Exall’s, playing under the team name ‘The Righteous Brothers’, take the BMGA British Doubles title.

Commenting on his first win on the BMGA Tour Andy Exall said “That was a really satisfying win, the general opinion being that it was the strongest field ever for the BMGA Doubles. After being drawn in the Group of Death we thought we may not qualify for the semi finals, eventually we scraped through with an ace on the very last hole after 6 rounds! After a close semi final win we had a run of 4 aces in a row in the final to comfortably beat the 2006 winners from the London Minigolf Club.”
The next tournament in the BMGA Tour calendar will see players compete in the BMGA English Open at the Recreation Ground course in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 7th June.
