British Matchplay Championships Round-up

The Adventure Golf course at St Nicholas Park in Warwick played host to five of the first round matches in the BMGA British Matchplay Championships on Saturday 17th May 2008.

The matches were as follows:

Some of the winners commented on their routes to victory in their matches at Warwick.

After defeating Steve Gow in his match Rocky Bullin said "I was one up going on the eighteenth, Steve went first and he aced it, I knew that it would go to sudden death if I didn't get the ace so I felt a bit of pressure, I didn't want to go to sudden death, but I managed to shake off my doubts and play the shot normally and it went in."

Ruth Bullin said of her match against Matthew Harding "It was an exciting match, I was quite apprehensive as I knew Matthew was well capable of winning, and indeed he was in the lead right up to the 14th.”

Ruth continued, “The turning point for me, though, was the tenth, when I was two holes down and my tee shot rolled back to my feet! I didn't want to go three down, and luckily my second shot went in, to draw the hole. Then I aced the 11th and pulled back to one down. Matthew had a couple of small errors towards the end and that was enough to let me back in to win. I hope he's not too disappointed as he played well and he has many more years ahead of him in which to win matches than I do!"

Tim Davies said of his match with Brad Shepherd "It could have gone either way. Nip & tuck, I was cosmetically surgical.”

John Moore said, “The key moment in my match against Keith was at the 11th. After a stray tee shot, Keith holed a wonderful second, but it was to count for nothing as I then aced the hole with a ball borrowed from Jam.”

John added “I was 3 up with 3 to play, and I sealed the match with an ace over the mound at the 16th. This provided some consolation for missing the same shot in the British Doubles semi-final, in what proved to be the decisive hole in the sudden death play-off.”

The draw for the second round will be taking place in June 2008, with the final to be played following the World Crazy Golf Championships in October 2008.
