The British Minigolf Association (BMGA) Tour returns to Hastings on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July as the Planet Hastings Crazy Golf Club has the honour of hosting the 2008 BMGA British Championships, the first Minigolf Major of the season.

Taking place at the Planet Hastings 18-hole Minigolf Course at Clambers/White Rock Gardens the tournament is one of the largest events in the BMGA Tour Calendar.

Over 50 BMGA Tour Professionals will be descending on Hastings for the event and new players are also invited to compete. There will be a free practice day for participants on Friday 11th July.

The two-day tournament will comprise of six rounds of competitive Minigolf over the Saturday and Sunday for all players, before a ‘cut’ is made to decide the final group of 18 players who will play one more round to decide the ultimate winners.

Prizes will be on offer in four categories including British Minigolf Champion, British Women’s Champion, British Seniors Champion and British Juniors Champion. Ranking Points in the BMGA Order of Merit are also on offer for BMGA players throughout the field.

Places are still available for players wishing to participate; the cost is £25.00, which covers entry into the tournament and free practice at the course on Friday 11th July.

Reigning BMGA British Minigolf Champion, Birmingham’s Chris Harding said, “As holder of the title the pressure will be on to keep my crown. The fact that we are playing at the home course of my greatest rival makes the task ahead more difficult but I will be giving it my best shot.”

Chris’s greatest rival is Hastings local and the 2000 BMGA British Champion Tim ‘Ace Man’ Davies. Davies said “I've hit a rich vein of form recently and I'll hit the mother lode at the British Championships.”

The BMGA British Championships take place on a different course each year and at the 2007 Championships, which were held in Margate, Kent, three members of the Bullin family from St Leonards on Sea were successful in their categories. Bill, Ruth and Rocky Bullin were the 2007 BMGA British Senior, Women’s and Junior Minigolf Champions respectively.

Current BMGA Women’s Champion Ruth Bullin said, “I’m looking forward to defending my title against some real competition this year at the Planet Hastings Course. The treacherous tenth may be a decider, or it may come down to consistency and nerves, who knows! Whatever happens, it’s a beautiful course, deceptive, frustrating and rewarding, and I’m anticipating a great weekend of fun competition amongst the keenest Minigolf players in the country.”

Ruth added “The women’s game is growing all the time and hopefully soon we will have enough serious players to make a separate event a reality and put the Women’s Championship firmly on the map of the BMGA tour calendar.”
