BMGA British Matchplay Championships – second round

16 July 2008

Last weekend saw three second round matches in the 2008 BMGA British Matchplay Championships contested on the courses of Hastings.

On Friday 11th July at the Seafront Minigolf Course Tunbridge Wells player Andy Exall beat Jas Kukielka from Wales 7&6 to move onto the quarter finals.

Andy Exall said “The Matchplay game against Jas on Hastings Mini course was great fun! I've never played Minigolf in wind like that and all notes and lines learnt previously went right out of the window!”

Exall added “Jas made a couple of early errors to let me win holes and apart from a nice half in 5 on the dreaded 5th; I played well and finished the game on the 12th, 7&6. Jas was a great competitor and the match was played in a great spirit and I look forward to the next round.”

Jas said “I was totally outplayed, outclassed and am now out of the competition! Andy is a great player and sportsman. I wish him all the best in the quarter finals.”

On Saturday 12th July Tim ‘Ace Man’ Davies beat BMGA Women’s Champion Ruth Bullin by 1 hole at Planet Hastings. And in the one outstanding first round match, Seve Kukielka beat Tunbridge Wells player Phil Exall by 1 hole at the Seafront Crazy Golf Course.

Seve said “It was an exciting match. Phil was a great competitor. I thought he'd snatched victory from me, but I got lucky with an ace on the last hole.”

The inaugural BMGA British Matchplay Championship is running throughout 2008, the tenth anniversary year of the BMGA. Matches are played at Crazy and Minigolf courses around the UK with players attempting to qualify for the final and the chance to win a three-figure sum. Valuable ranking points will also be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th places (400, 300, 200, and 100 respectively).
