BMGA British Matchplay Championships – Second Round Matches – Brighton & Hastings

Last week saw two further second round matches in the 2008 BMGA British Matchplay Championships take place.
Kevin ‘Legendus Maximus’ Botto vs. Sean ‘Freebird’ Homer
On Thursday 24th July Sean ‘Freebird’ Homer faced Kevin ‘Legendus Maximus’ Botto at Peter Pan’s Adventure Golf Course in Brighton.
The 12 hole course was played one and a half times to complete the 18 holes required in the tournament, and at the end it was Kevin Botto who took the victory 2 & 1.
Kevin Botto said ”It was a good battle, with Sean initially going 1 up on the second, then there were a good few holes for me, I aced the 6th and after the 9th I was 3 up. Sean holed a monster putt on the 12th to save the hole and stop me going 4 up.”
Botto continued “As we had to play 18 holes, we played the first 6 holes for a second time. I catastrophically screwed up the 2nd again and got a 6, to leave me 2 up with 4 to play. Then on the 5th (17th), Sean got a 2 narrowly missing the ace. I hit a poor first shot, but managed to hole my second shot to win. Woo yeah!”
Sean Homer said “Hats of to Kevin - it was a good game and he kept his cool on a very hot day and KO'd me good and proper! Just a shame we didn't play the 2nd hole 18 times!”
Peter Emmerson vs. Bill Bullin
On Saturday 26th July at the Adventure Golf Course in Hastings Sealand’s Peter Emmerson faced a tough ‘away’ match against Bill Bullin of St Leonards on Sea.
With Emmerson going 3 up after four holes, Bill turned the match around eventually winning 2 & 1 to progress into the next round.
The inaugural BMGA British Matchplay Championship is running throughout 2008, the tenth anniversary year of the BMGA. Matches are played at Crazy and Minigolf courses around the UK with players attempting to qualify for the final and the chance to win a three-figure sum. Valuable ranking points will also be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th places (400, 300, 200, and 100 respectively).
The third round draw will be taking place on Monday 4th August (TBC).
