Minigolf Report – Rocky Bullin Returns from Youth World Championships of Minigolf

Top British Junior Minigolfer, Rocky Bullin, 13 from St Leonards on Sea in East Sussex has returned from competing against 106 of the world’s best young players in the Minigolf Youth World Championships (YWC), which took place on the 6th to 9th August 2008 in Budapest, Hungary

Rocky’s appearance marked the first time a British Youth player had competed in a Youth World Championships. The trip and competition was used by Rocky as a training and learning opportunity as the courses played in European Competition differ greatly to Minigolf courses found in the UK.

After four days of intense competition on the European Standard Beton and Swedish Felt courses Rocky, finished in 78th place (‘Junior Men Rankings’) with a score of 321, an average of 2.22 per hole (over 144 holes) and a total of 47 Holes-in-One. Rocky also set a new British course record on the Swedish Felt course with a score of 38 (+2) in his third round, beating the previous record that had stood since 2003, by two shots.

Rocky was also awarded the Fair Play Trophy for his sporting behaviour and good performance he was awarded throughout the tournament.

His parents Bill and Ruth coached Rocky at the tournament. Ruth, the current BMGA British Women’s Champion said, “Rocky is the first British Junior competitor ever to take part. He beat the British record, which has stood since 2003, on the Swedish Felt course and he also shot a 28 on the Eternit course, in a round which included eleven holes-in-one.”

Pasi Aho, World Minigolfsport Federation (WMF) Youth Officer and Finnish Team Coach said, "I must say Rocky's performance as a whole, not only his results exceeded my wildest dreams.”

Pasi added, “Rocky had not played on Swedish Felt courses before and played with only a few days practice. To see how other players received Rocky and congratulated him after his play was absolutely fantastic. Rocky will have taken much from the top players and will learn to be a better Minigolf player. The task is now to pass this knowledge on to other British juniors as well, since there is only one thing better than individual success. Success to share with someone - the team.”

Rocky Bullin and his coaching team’s kit was sponsored by UrbanCrazy - a pioneering company providing portable crazy golf entertainment and installing permanent miniature golf courses across the UK.
